Christmas Tree

This is my first crochet Chrismas tree made of crocodile stitches.

I choosed to not fill it up inside. Instead I used а smaller hook size than recommended.

The yarn used is 75% cotton, 25% viscose, hook size 3mm (US C or D). Any hook size and yarn will do - it will just make the tree bigger or smaller. The finished tree is around 13cm tall (5 in).

I recommend using worsted weight yarn with a hook two size smaller or two strands of yarn with the recommended size otherwise you will need some filling.

And here is the pattern (I've never posted pattern for other people so far so if there is any mistake please let me know :))

The tree is made from bottom to top.

Special stitch:

Crocodile stitch (croc st) - if you are not familiar with it I suggest you watch some video and make a swatch first. The crocodile stitch needs a foundation row with set of  2 dc (referred below as post) and then the scale itself is done with 5fpdc down the first dc, ch 1, then 5 fpdc up the second dc.

Crocodile stitch decrease - yo, insert hook into the stitch between the scales of the next crocodile stitch, draw the yarn (4 loops on hook), draw the yarn through the first 2 loops, yo, insert the hook into the stitch between the scales of the next crocodile stitch (skip the ch 1 between the croc st), draw the yarn through the first 2 loops, yo, draw the yarn through all the loops (3 loops on hook).

Pattern:
Start with 42 hdc foundation chain, end with slip stitch into 1st to form ring (you need to sew it at the end).

Row 22
Ch1, sc in same st, sc 11, ss in ch1

Row 23
Now continue working in rounds without ss - *sc, sc2tog* till there are only 6 sc left. Cut the yarn and sew the top of the tree.

If the yarn is too soft you can use some filling inside and then sew a circle at the bottom of the tree. However if you have used two strands of yarn or a smaller hook than the one recommended for the yarn the tree will be stable enough. You can now decorate it at your wish :)

Enjoy!
